The Shelf Test · No. 02 · Wrapping masks

We read the labels of three wrapping masks. One of them you can launch under your brand.

Medicube made the night wrapping mask a category. Quia Beauty put kojic acid and turmeric on top of it. Between them sits a copper peptide peel-off you can launch under your own name in about six weeks. Three labels, read the same way: what is in them, where it sits, and what that means on a shelf.

A wrapping mask is sold on a feeling. The film sets, the face tightens, something is visibly happening. Your customers buy that feeling on the first tube. They buy the second one after reading the label.

That is the part of this category that is hard to see from the front of the pack. Every wrapping mask is the same film, polyvinyl alcohol at #2, and everything the brand promises is decided by what sits under it and where. The name on the front can be at #4 or at #25. Only the label says which.

So that is where this starts. Three labels, every ingredient, in the order each brand printed them. Two of them belong to the product that made this category and the product that put the trending ingredients on top of it. The third is a formula that exists today, in a US facility, waiting for a name.

By the end you will know whether it belongs on that shelf. Then you can hold all three and decide.

What to look for on a wrapping mask label

Four things on a wrapping mask label carry most of what a customer will ever learn about it.

  1. The film. Polyvinyl alcohol at #2 is what “wrapping” means: it dries into a flexible layer that holds whatever sits under it against the skin. The film is the same on all three labels. The wear is not. An overnight mask keeps the layer soft and is washed off in the morning; a peel-off sets and lifts away in one piece. Same ingredient, two different products, and the label tells you which one you are holding.
  2. Where the name ingredient sits. Ingredients are listed in descending order down to the 1% line, and below it the order is the brand’s choice. Products in this category often close the list with the ingredient the front of the pack leads with. Position is the only concentration signal a label gives you, and every brand knows it.
  3. What holds the water. Under the film sits the part of the formula the customer actually wears: glycerin, hyaluronate, sugars, glycols. The longer labels spend most of their names here. It is the difference between a mask that feels like a treatment and one that feels like a film.
  4. The flags. A film worn for hours needs robust preservation and a label that survives a screenshot: no fragrance, no alcohol, no PEGs, nothing the FormuNova ingredient library rates with caution. All three read clean here, which moves the whole comparison to the first three points.

Read the three labels below with those four in mind. The pattern shows up fast.

01 · Medicube

Collagen Night Wrapping Mask

This is the product that made the night wrapping mask a category, and the label shows how much of that is formula. The film is at #2. Agave stem extract at #4, niacinamide at #5, sodium hyaluronate at #6: three names a customer knows, in the top six. Then a run of sugars, glucose at #11, fructose at #14, fructooligosaccharides at #15, with adenosine at #16. From #19 to #22 comes a lipid layer most masks skip, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hydrogenated lecithin, and ceramide NP, with tocopherol at #23. Collagen extract, the name on the front, is at #25 of 26. Above it sit twenty-four names that do the wearing.

Ingredients Aqua, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Agave Americana Stem Extract, Niacinamide, Sodium Hyaluronate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, Glucose, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fructose, Fructooligosaccharides, Adenosine, Xanthan Gum, Cynanchum Atratum Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Ceramide NP, Tocopherol, Pancratium Maritimum Extract, Collagen Extract, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate.

What to actually expect. A label built for the night: humectants in the top six, sugars through the middle, a barrier lipid set near the end, nothing flagged. The namesake ingredient is the second-to-last name on the list, above only the emulsifier, and a customer who reads all the way down will notice. It is the most complete wear layer on this shelf, and the reason the category exists.

Twenty-four names doing the wearing. Collagen at #25.

02 · Quia Beauty

Kojic Acid Turmeric Night Wrapping Mask

Quia Beauty took the same film and put the two ingredients customers were searching for on the front. Turmeric root extract is at #4, ahead of glycerin, the highest a headline ingredient sits on any of the three labels. Niacinamide at #6, sodium hyaluronate at #9, glycerol glucoside at #12, adenosine at #16. Then the list closes with a run of names each of which could carry a product of its own: collagen extract at #18, kojic acid at #19, ascorbic acid at #20, soybean oil at #21, and retinol at #22 of 22.

Ingredients Water, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Glycerin, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Isopentyldiol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Propanediol, Glycerol Glucoside, Glucose, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Collagen Extract, Kojic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Retinol.

What to actually expect. Turmeric where a customer can see it, a wear layer close to Medicube's, and nothing flagged. The other name on the front, kojic acid, sits at #19 of 22, with vitamin C and retinol behind it, on a mask worn through the night. That is a lot of stories on one label, and the customer who bought it for the kojic acid may go looking for where it is. The brand knows its customers' search bar. The label shows the cost of answering all of it at once.

Turmeric at #4. Kojic acid at #19 of 22.

Now read the third label the same way.

GHK-Cu + Caffeine Wrapping Mask

Water, the film, glycerin. Caffeine at #4, above the gum and above the preservative system. Xanthan gum at #5. Phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin at #6 and #7. Copper Tripeptide-1, the peptide sold as GHK-Cu, at #8, with citric acid to set the pH at #9. Nine names, all of them rated, none flagged. No fragrance, no alcohol, no PEGs, no silicones. It is a peel-off: about fifteen minutes on, then the film lifts away in one piece.

What to actually expect. The shortest label on the shelf and the easiest to read: one film, one humectant, two actives, a preservative system, a pH adjuster. Read it the same way as the other two and the peptide sits at #8, the same end of the list as collagen and kojic acid on the others. The difference is that seven names sit above it instead of twenty-four. Two things to know before you plan the label. This is not an overnight mask. It sets in about fifteen minutes and peels, so it sells as a ritual rather than a sleep step, and a customer looking for a night mask will read the format before the peptide. And its wear layer is glycerin alone; the other two spend ten or more names on hyaluronate, sugars, and lipids, and a customer used to them will notice. Neither changes what the label is. Both change how you tell it.

Nine names. Caffeine at #4, copper peptide at #8, nothing flagged. A label a customer reads in one breath.

Where each one leads

Medicube owns the night: the deepest wear layer on the shelf and the customers who made the format a habit. Quia Beauty owns the search bar, turmeric and kojic acid on a film customers already know. Between them is a position neither has taken: the wrapping mask that is a fifteen-minute ritual instead of a night, where the two actives on the front are the only actives on the label, and there is nothing else to explain.

That position is open. The film is the same. The occasion is different, the label is shorter, and the customer can read it in one breath.

If you are building a brand

Taking it is mostly a set of brand decisions, because the formula part is finished.

Is this a ritual or a routine? A peel-off is a once-or-twice-a-week product; the 4 fl oz tube lasts a customer through a season, and the peel itself is the kind of moment customers tend to film. Where does it sit on your price ladder? A wrapping mask usually sells as a treatment, above a sheet mask and below a serum; the tube size sets that, not the formula. One product or a set? The GHK-Cu Copper Tripeptide-1 Face Cream comes from the same catalog and shares the peptide, which is where a mask-to-cream reorder typically starts.

Your name and logo on the label are included, and the label template is on the product page. If you want the tube itself to be different, we do that too.

You do not have to commit to a run to find out. Order samples and put all three on your desk; they ship in days. Get the price table, so you know your unit economics before you spend anything on design. Then put your artwork on the label, choose your components, and the first run comes out of our GMP-certified, FDA-registered facility in Stone Mountain, Georgia in four to six weeks, with the specification sheet, safety data sheets and certificate of analysis that Amazon and retail will ask you for.

A first run is usually a few thousand units, sized to how you plan to sell it. If you want to test the market first, you can start smaller and scale on the reorder. If you are already moving volume, we plan production around your cadence, with dedicated capacity from 1,000 units a week.

Things people ask us

Is this the same formula as the Medicube or Quia Beauty product?

No. The GHK-Cu + Caffeine Wrapping Mask is a separate formula, designed and manufactured by FormuNova in our own facility. This piece compares what each label lists and how our ingredient library rates those ingredients; the brand, the story and the price are yours.

What does FormuNova do?

We are a US-based manufacturer of beauty and personal-care products for brands ready to scale. Development and manufacturing are in-house in Stone Mountain, Georgia, with formulation, fulfillment, design, supply-chain and regulatory support around it. See private label and custom formulation.

Can I customize a private label product?

Yes. Your label with your branding and logo is included in the base price, and the template is on the product page. Different components, such as a pump, a jar or another bottle, run through our custom packaging program. Ingredient changes are a separate custom formulation program with its own timeline; the formula on this page is offered as it is. If your brand is already running high volumes, reach out to discuss turnkey manufacturing and supply-chain management.

What is the minimum order?

A first run is usually a few thousand units, sized to how you plan to sell it, and you can start smaller to test the market and scale on the reorder. Our floor minimums for private label are 140 units with standard packaging and 500 with custom packaging; a higher minimum is listed on a product page when it applies.

What is the lead time?

Typically 4 to 6 weeks for private label orders, with an account manager assigned to manage it. For established brands we offer turnkey supply-chain management with dedicated production capacity from 1,000 units a week.

How will my order be delivered?

In bulk, EXW, by LTL freight or UPS, prepared for your warehouse, 3PL or retail platform. We can coordinate freight on your behalf, and if you do not have a warehouse we can ship to a commercial or residential address or discuss direct-to-consumer fulfillment. FBA prep and secondary packaging are quoted separately.

Can anyone launch a new brand?

With enough preparation, yes. If you are at the start, we guide you through the first steps; minimums are low enough to start, and we are equipped to help you scale.

Where are the products made, and are they FDA approved?

In our GMP-certified (NSF/ANSI 455-3), FDA-registered facility in Stone Mountain, Georgia, directly from the manufacturer. Cosmetics are not subject to FDA approval the way drugs are; our facility is registered with the FDA and follows strict quality and compliance protocols. Learn more about our GMP certification for cosmetics.

What documentation is provided?

For each SKU, a Finished Product Specification Sheet and Safety Data Sheets, and a Certificate of Analysis for every batch. We also provide GMP certification, FDA registration, proof of inventory, the Cosmetic Product Ingredient Statement and other documents that Amazon, Walmart, CVS and Shopify ask for.

What budget should I plan for?

The absolute minimum is around $2,000; most launches need $5,000 to $10,000; a competitive small private-label launch typically falls in the $10,000 to $30,000 range, not including marketing and fulfillment. Established brands: reach out for a quote aligned to your volume.

Do you offer marketing services?

No. Direct-to-consumer marketing is the core of your business and we do not believe in outsourcing the core. We handle everything else: formulation, manufacturing, fulfillment, design, supply chain and regulatory support.

How do I launch this product with FormuNova?

Order samples and test this serum against the two bottles above. Get the price table. Then reach out with a short summary of your brand stage; an account manager takes it from there.

See it yourself.
