A Multi-Target Active for Thinning Hair

Procapil™ is a patented anti-hair-loss active developed by Sederma (part of Croda). It pairs a biotin-linked matrikine peptide — biotinoyl tripeptide-1 — with two plant-derived phytoactives, apigenin and oleanolic acid, in a water and glycol base.

Rather than acting on a single pathway, Procapil™ works on several of the factors behind progressive hair thinning at once — which has made it one of the most widely formulated hair-density actives in modern leave-on scalp care.

How Procapil™ Works

Procapil™ brings together three actives, each targeting a different driver of hair thinning:

  • Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 — a biotin-linked matrikine peptide that stimulates the synthesis of adhesion proteins such as laminin-5 and collagen IV, reinforcing how firmly the hair is anchored.
  • Apigenin — a citrus flavonoid that improves perifollicular microcirculation and supports dermal papilla cell activity.
  • Oleanolic Acid — an olive-leaf phytoactive that inhibits 5-alpha-reductase to help limit the conversion of testosterone into DHT.

Safety Analysis

Procapil™ is considered safe and well-tolerated for topical use in leave-on and rinse-off hair care at recommended levels (typically up to ~3%). Its components have a long history of cosmetic use and are non-irritating at use concentration. As with any active, finished formulas should be supported by standard stability and safety testing, and patch testing is advisable for sensitive users.
