Quick Insights
Ingredient Rating:
GOOD
Type of Ingredient:
Antioxidant, Anti-Aging Agent, Tone Evener, Soother and Barrier Support
Intended Function:
An antioxidant and skin-conditioning botanical active for both skincare and hair care. Its concentrated soy isoflavones (genistein, daidzein) neutralize free radicals, are associated with supporting collagen and elasticity (notably in mature skin), help soothe and even the look of skin tone, and inhibit 5α-reductase — supporting scalp and hair applications alongside facial skincare.
Common Applications:
Commonly used in antioxidant and anti-aging serums and moisturizers, brightening and even-tone treatments, soothing and sensitive-skin products, and scalp serums, anti-thinning treatments, and hair-vitality formulas.
Target Audience:
Ideal for brands building antioxidant and anti-aging skincare — especially lines for mature, menopausal, or environmentally-stressed skin — as well as brightening, soothing/sensitive, and scalp-and-hair products that want a credible, research-backed botanical active.

Safety Analysis
Glycine Soja (Soybean) Germ Extract has a strong safety profile. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has assessed soy-derived cosmetic ingredients, including soy proteins and peptides, as safe in the current practices of use and concentration. Although soy is a recognized food allergen, the CIR Panel was not concerned about allergic reactions from dermal exposure to water-soluble soy ingredients — they are poorly absorbed and fall below the molecular-weight threshold associated with sensitization, no Type I allergic reactions from soy cosmetics have been reported, and soy extracts were not dermal sensitizers in testing. As a sensible precaution, brands may still flag soy content for the small share of consumers (about 0.3-0.4%) with a soy allergy. The extract’s isoflavones are phytoestrogens, not hormones, and are considered safe for topical use, with low systemic absorption. As with any botanical active, formulate at a validated use level and preserve the finished product adequately.
