Standardized Saw Palmetto, in Powder Form

Saw Palmetto Extract Powder is a dried, standardized extract of saw palmetto (Serenoa serrulata / repens) berries — a lipido-sterolic botanical rich in free fatty acids and phytosterols — supplied as a fine, free-flowing powder for easy dosing in water-based and anhydrous formats.

It is best known as a botanical inhibitor of 5-alpha-reductase, the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT. Through that same DHT and sebum axis it is used both in scalp and hair-thinning care and in oil-control skincare. How It Works

Moderating this axis underlies its two main cosmetic uses — supporting follicles against DHT-driven thinning, and curbing DHT-stimulated sebum in oily skin and scalp. The extract also shows antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity (e.g. COX-2 / 5-LOX modulation).

Powder Form & Formulating

The powder format makes saw palmetto easy to weigh, standardize and incorporate into water-phase, powder-to-liquid and anhydrous systems where a liquid extract is less convenient. Disperse fully and protect from moisture; pair with complementary scalp and oil-control actives as needed.

Safety Analysis

Saw palmetto extract is widely used topically and generally well tolerated in rinse-off and leave-on formats; databases list it as a skin-conditioning cosmetic ingredient with no specific use ban, though brands must substantiate safety for the finished product. As a DHT-pathway active, many brands conservatively advise avoiding use during pregnancy and lactation. Conduct patch / HRIPT testing on the finished product and follow MoCRA-aligned substantiation.
