How It Works

Hydroxypropylcellulose is a modified cellulose whose long polymer chains swell and entangle in water, raising viscosity and structuring the formula; as a film former, those same chains dry into a thin, flexible layer that smooths the surface and improves product wear. It is compatible with both water and many polar solvents.

Formulating with Hydroxypropylcellulose

Hydroxypropylcellulose is dispersed into water (or a water/alcohol blend) and hydrated with mixing; it is used at low levels as a thickener, stabilizer or film former. Observe good manufacturing and preservation practice.
