In topical systems, astaxanthin has been reported to reduce UV-triggered oxidative stress, modulate inflammatory signaling, and help preserve collagen integrity—mechanisms that translate into improved skin resilience, tone uniformity, and fine-line appearance when properly delivered to viable epidermis. Because astaxanthin is oil-soluble, it integrates cleanly into anhydrous serums, emulsions (O/W and W/O), and sunscreen adjacencies as an antioxidant co-active that complements filters by neutralizing reactive species formed post-UV exposure.

Hair/scalp care. On the scalp, astaxanthin’s ROS-quenching and soothing actions help mitigate UV- and pollution-induced oxidative stress that can exacerbate redness or discomfort and degrade barrier function.
