Camelina Sativa Seed Oil

Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, often referred to as “Gold of Pleasure” or False Flax Oil, is a cold-pressed oil rich in omega-3 (α-linolenic acid ~25 – 32 %), omega-6 (linoleic acid ~19 – 26 %), omega-9 (oleic and gondoic acids ~27 – 31 %), and potent antioxidants including tocopherols (vitamin E) and phytosterols. In skincare, these fatty acids help reinforce the epidermal lipid barrier, reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL), improving hydration and elasticity, while antioxidants guard against oxidative stress and environmental aggressors. Emerging in vitro and topical studies suggest Camelina oil enhances keratinocyte renewal and accelerates fibroblast division, promotes collagen synthesis (up to +22 % over 48 h).

In haircare, Camelina Oil’s lightweight, non-greasy texture nourishes the scalp and strands without residue, helping to smooth and fortify hair, ease dryness, and enhance shine and manageability. Its nourishing fatty acids, antioxidants, and barrier-support compounds support scalp health and help protect follicles from oxidative damage and breakage.

Safety Analysis

Camelina Sativa Seed Oil is generally well tolerated, non-comedogenic, and suitable for sensitive skin — rare allergic reactions may occur in individuals with seed-oil sensitivities; a patch test is always advised. No significant irritant or contraindications are documented; in fact, it is commonly incorporated into baby skincare. Because this raw material is rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids rather than photosensitizers, phototoxicity is not a typical concern. Nonetheless, as with any botanical-derived oil, stability measures (e.g., dark packaging, antioxidants) should be considered to preserve its active profile.
