BIO-Placenta Hair™ is a hair-growth active designed to support scalp condition and follicular vitality through a synergistic combination of safely synthesized growth factors, amino acids, vitamins, and natural extracts. These components work together to stimulate mRNA expression associated with hair growth, improve hair quality, provide moisturization, and help regulate scalp condition. In mechanistic studies using human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs), BIO-Placenta Hair™ was shown to enhance biological markers associated with active hair growth. While it did not directly increase cell proliferation under the test conditions, it increased cell density without inducing apoptosis and significantly stimulated alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, a marker associated with dermal papilla function during the anagen phase. The ingredient also upregulated signaling and gene expression related to follicle growth, including activation of the AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin pathway and increased expression of ALP, HEY1, SOX2, SHH, and VEGF. In addition, this raw material increased both the expression and secretion of VEGF, a growth factor closely linked to angiogenesis and follicular support.

Ex vivo testing on human hair follicles further demonstrated hair-growth-promoting activity. Treatment with 3% and 10% BIO-Placenta Hair stimulated elongation of the hair shaft over a 7-day culture period, with the 10% concentration showing the strongest performance. Histological and immunohistochemical observations also showed a greater number of follicles in anagen-like morphology and increased expression of β-catenin and PCNA, indicating enhanced activity in the cells that make up the hair follicle. In this study, 10% BIO-Placenta Hair™ showed superior efficacy to the minoxidil comparator under the tested conditions.

These findings indicate that BIO-Placenta supports hair follicle function by maintaining dermal papilla cell characteristics, stimulating growth-related signaling, and promoting hair shaft elongation. This makes it suitable for hair-care applications targeting hair loss prevention, scalp revitalization, and improved hair density and quality. Typical end uses would include scalp serums, anti-hair-loss treatments, tonics, and other leave-on products intended to support fuller, healthier-looking hair.
