Despite lacking structural similarity to retinol, bakuchiol exhibits comparable biological activity by modulating gene expression pathways associated with collagen synthesis, cell turnover, and melanogenesis. Clinical studies have demonstrated that topical application of bakuchiol can significantly reduce signs of photoaging, such as fine lines and hyperpigmentation, with a tolerability profile superior to that of retinol.
